With assistance from Royalty Exchange, we plot the top songwriters of the singles charts on both sides of the Atlantic

Lead singer of Portugal. The Man, John Gourley, is new to this week’s chart landing at the solid position of No 15 for the song Feel It Still. Originally from a small rural town in Alaska, Gourley claims the inspiration behind the bands sound comes from a combination of The Beatles and Wu-Tang.

Another addition can be seen in Belcalis Almanzar also known by her stage name, Cardi B. An American hip-hop recording artist from the Bronx, Cardi B has received huge success surrounding her most recent release Bodak Yellow. The song has been on Billboard’s Hot 100 for three weeks now, currently at No 49, having risen from No 78 the previous week.

It is worth noting that last week Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter skyrocketed to the No 1 seat on our Hot Hitmakers chart. The album earned Jay-Z his 14th No 1 Billboard hit, the most ever achieved by a solo artist. Yet with a lack of availability through streaming platform Spotify, Jay-Z has seen a severe drop off in popularity behind the album. Jay-Z allowed streaming through his company Tidal, limiting plays to only those subscribed to the platform.
