Goodwood Atoms are a Vancouver band who have collaborated with local luminaries such as Nygel Asselin (Half Moon Run), Shaw Cole (You Say Party!) and Jon Anderson (Said The Whale) on their new EP. Place offers a quartet of considered indie-pop songs, equally capable of skipping and swirling, and reminiscent of The Maccabees, alt-J and Future Islands.

The EP begins with Into The Bay. Its rhythmic tick and blanketed vocals help to convey the track’s message of a world of created boundaries, from which people long to be free. Dreaming About is born into a land of gentle electronica before launching into something altogether more propulsive – Francis Hooper’s slight vocals gain strength, as required.

Tech Know is a slower more deliberate offering whose opening section tempts comparison with John Grant, before cascading into its own ethereal daydream. This softer side is equally apparent on the acoustic-flavoured title track, which brings this short collection to a close. Over these four tracks, Goodwood Atoms reveal their many different sides, all have their charms, and it will be interesting to see how the band hold everything together on an album.
