‘I Am You’ by Fable (Single)

Broody, moody and soothing, the first track from the Devon songwriter is one that fans of sultry synth-pop will love

Fable unleashes her debut album Sacrilege this year and I Am You is the first single to be released from her maiden LP. Paying faithful homage to the likes of Goldfrapp and Bat For Lashes, this is a track dressed in black.

Beginning in a sultry tone, Fable teases the listener with a seductive groove that presents I Am You as an alluring slice of synth-pop. This gives way to a vibe that’s altogether more industrial and one that will appeal as much to fans of Stabbing Westward as it will followers of Ladytron.

I Am You is a song that’s nagging in its catchiness; it doesn’t release its hooks freely and demands instead that you’re sucked into its charm. As far as introductions to debut albums go, this is certainly very promising and it suggests that Fable is a writer with enough in her locker to step outside the synth-pop label.

Verdict: Synth-pop with a twist
