New York garage rock quintet are to unveil new music during their headline slot at The Governors Music Ball Festival
It’s been a little under three years since they released their fifth studio album Comedown Machine in March 2013, but fans of The Strokes will now have to wait less than four months to hear the band’s new material.
The news came after organisers for the The Governors Music Ball Festival confirmed that The Strokes’ headline set at the festival this June, was booked on the proviso that they would be playing new songs. Speaking in a Reddit AMA, the organisers said: “This would be their first batch of new tunes in, well, just about a half decade. Kind of a big deal. Also, they’ve played a total of 8 shows in North America in the last decade, so I’d say it’s a pretty big deal any time they hit the stage.”
This year’s Governors Ball takes place from 3-5 June and will be held at Randall’s Island Park in New York City. Alongside The Strokes, the festival will also feature performances from Chvrches, Bat For Lashes, Beck, Against Me!, Vic Mensa and Torres among others.
