Dolly is set to return to the small screen
Songwriting legend Dolly Parton has revealed she’s working on a series of TV movies which are based on her life
olly Parton will soon be back on the small screen, after the country music legend and songwriting hero confirmed that she is working on a series of TV movies based on her life. In a statement Parton spoke of how she and Bob Greenblatt were working to create ‘inspirational’ films. She said “I am so excited to be involved with my friend Bob Greenblatt… and my longtime friend and former agent Sam Haskell. We want to create projects for NBC that are both fun and inspirational with a family audience in mind.”
When speaking to Rolling Stone Greenblatt explained that it was working with Parton on 9 to 5: The Musical – a Broadway show which takes its inspiration from Parton’s song of the same title – that had led them to work on the TV films. He said, “She’s just thinking about a lot of things going on in her life and things she’s written about and I had lunch with her a couple of months ago and she said, ‘You know, I’d love to see if there’s some movies we can develop out of the stories I’ve been writing about. We have not talked about them being musicals, but you know it’s not out of the question. I think they will have a lot of her music in them, but I don’t think they’ll be musicals, per se.”
Parton has a long history of involvement with TV and film, starring in the 1980 film 9 to 5 among others.
