Chicks With Hits: “a sorority, a sisterhood, and a family”

Nashville’s all-female publishing collective reflects upon on two decades in the business, supporting over 150 of Music City’s hit songwriters

This month saw Nashville’s Chicks With Hits celebrate its 20th anniversary, with an event held at BMI on Music Row in Nashville. The all-female publishing collective celebrated alongside colleagues, friends and family that had all gathered to commemorate and reflect upon the accomplishments of the group.

Eighteen current Chicks With Hits members have been integral catalysts in the careers of many of Nashville’s hit songwriters, artists, and award winning singles. Collectively, they represent 75 active songwriters and recording artists, and have had songs recorded by more than 150 artists including: Carrie Underwood, Kelly Clarkson, Cyndi Lauper, Dolly Parton, Faith Hill, Garth Brooks, Tim McGraw, Jason Aldean, Jimmy Buffett, Keith Urban, Kenny Chesney, Little Big Town, Jo Dee Messina, Luke Bryan, Reba McEntire, Taylor Swift, Old Dominion, Sara Evans, Lady Antebellum, Dierks Bentley, Miranda Lambert, Sam Hunt, Chris Stapleton, Kacey Musgraves and many more.

The Chicks With Hits were honoured to have the support of producers, artists, A&R executives, songwriters, and managers spanning decades of music. From veteran artists such as Kathy Mattea and Duane Allen of the Oak Ridge Boys, to developing acts like Heidi Raye and SHEL, all came out to show their appreciation.

Nashville’s most accomplished female A&R executives were in attendance including Mary Martin, Martha Sharp, Paige Levy, Cris Lacy and Carole Ann Mobley. As well as some of Nashville’s most awarded producers such as Kyle Lehning, Garth Fundis, Brent Maher, Blake Chancey, Doug Johnson, and Michael Knox.

“The Chicks with Hits is a sorority, a sisterhood, and a family,” reflects Chicks member Melanie Howard. “We not only support each other, we champion each other both in the music business and in our personal lives. We are a unit of strong-willed, confident, opinionated professional women who truly care about the well being of each other, our songwriters, the music, and our colleagues.”
