HEADIE ONE
BACK TO BASICS (FEATURING SKEPTA)
Relentless Records
Having become the most commercially successful drill artist, Headie One’s collaboration with Skepta focuses on the perils of street life over a swirling loop and punchy percussion. The flows and chemistry are both on point, showcasing two British rappers at the top of their game. BD
SEAN C KENNEDY
SKYDANCE
Sean C Kennedy
This powerful track is the newest release from Kennedy and it is a major standout from the folk-infused hitmaker. It has a summery vibe that is perfect for this time of year and – thanks to his gorgeous vocal tone – he is able to elevate the production to whole new levels. LK
JULIA MEIJER
EN LITEN FAGEL
Pin Drop Records
This shimmering and unearthly track should heighten anticipation ahead of the Swedish singer-songwriter’s tour next month. As her soft vocals become entwined in an atmospheric bed of sound you can’t help but be drawn in. Once wrapped up in the song’s gentle ambience it’s too comfortable to leave. DH
ABBY ANDERSON
GUY LIKE YOU
Black River Entertainment
Think young Shania Twain meets Kelsea Ballerini and you’ll get a good feel for the kind of vibe Abby brings to the industry. This track is fresh, anthemic and her best release to date. It has wonderful pop tinges mixed with funky country vibes and will no doubt resonate with listeners across the board. LK
ALBI & THE WOLVES
THIS IS WAR
Second Hand Records
There’s a palpable sense of passion in this feverish folk number. Much of it comes from Pascal Roggen’s electric violin, but that’s not to say that Chris Dent’s guitar and Michael Young’s bass don’t also play their part. Let’s just hope the New Zealand trio have vanquished some demons with this musical exorcism. DH
DVNO
CHTAH
Grand Musique Management
DVNO’s new track grooves like the best house should, syncopated rave stabs backed up by a synth bassline and 4/4 pulse. It’s relatively minimal, with a vocal sample and intense riser the only extras occasionally thrown into the mix, but all together these make a winning combination. BD
