Purple Pilgrims: New Zealand sisters Valentine and Clementine Nixon

We’ve been enjoying this new music from Purple Pilgrims, Clara Bond, Daniel O’Sullivan, Abby Inez, Ty Segall and Sarah Darling

PURPLE PILGRIMS
LOVE IN LUNACY (SATURN RETURN)
Flying Nun Records

New Zealand sisters Valentine and Clementine Nixon return with a spacious synth-folk offering taken from their forthcoming second album. Though layers of FX help to construct the duo’s musical habitat, it’s an uncluttered environment in which their vocals have freedom to drift. DH

CLARA BOND
BABY, YOU’VE BEEN ON MY MIND
Self-release

This track is the perfect country/pop mix and has an old school Taylor Swift meets Selena Gomez vibe that will entice new listeners. It has fantastic lyrics and a brilliant hook that will get stuck in your head for days. Bond is an artist who delivers time and time again and this release is a major standout from the multi-talented Brit. LK

DANIEL O’SULLIVAN
THE DIAMOND VEHICLE
O Genesis Recordings

In places, Daniel O’Sullivan has something of an unlovely voice, in particular when it drops to a lower range, but elsewhere it’s angelic and burnished with gold. This contrast makes for a thrilling listen on his latest single, a piano ballad which is a vessel for his seductive songwriting. DH

ABBY INEZ
BRIDGES
Self-release

With sweet, soaring vocals, Abby Inez delivers a delightful dose of country with a heartfelt kick. It’s a gorgeous, lyrically moving track that showcases her soft, luscious voice. Inez is an exciting artist and this release has the potential to push her to the forefront of the country scene. LK

TY SEGALL
RADIO
Drag City

Continually inspired and seemingly never bogged-down in one particular style or sound, Radio fizzes along with an idiosyncratic rhythmic pulse reminiscent of The Beatles at their creative peak. The prolific Californian has pulled another gem out of his creative pocket. DH

SARAH DARLING
ENJOY THE RIDE
Be Darling Records

Fresh from topping the Official UK Top 20 Country Album chart with her latest LP ‘Wonderland’, the US country sensation returned with a radio mix of Enjoy The Ride. The funky feel-good anthem has been given a production makeover and the result is an anthemic country crossover that has huge potential. LK
