Cheryl: Love Made Me Do It is unlike anything we have heard from the hitmaker before.

Cheryl, Amigo The Devil, Carly Pearce, Chorusgirl, The Desert and Fightmilk make up our selection of songs on heavy rotation

CHERYL
LOVE MADE ME DO IT
3Beat

After a four year hiatus, Cheryl returns with the pop anthem of 2018. Love Made Me Do It is unlike anything we have heard from the hitmaker before. With a spoken wordsinging intro overlayed with a killer production, it’s up there with her best releases. The honest lyrics take aim at her former lovers and give an insight into her relationship with love. LK

THE DESERT
DISTRACT ME
Funnel Music

If you’ve got the songs then it’s worth remembering that less really can be more. This intimate ballad is all the better for letting Gina Leonard’s vocals carry it all the way through to the moment where the synths drop. DH

CHORUSGIRL
DEMON BABY
Reckless Yes

Chorusgirl’s new song is the first written by the indie/noise pop band’s new member, Faith Taylor. It may have that shimmer of shiny guitars and pulsing synths, but Taylor sings of anxiety and a desperate attempt to run away and hide in isolation. It’s a well-crafted song. The band are touring now. DC

AMIGO THE DEVIL
COCAINE AND ABEL
Regime Inc/Membran

“I refuse to believe that I have to be the same person I was born when I die,” – brutally honest but not without hope, Danny Kiranos (Amigo The Devil) tackles his demons head-on in this forceful ballad. He’s a new artist to keep a close eye on. DH

CARLY PEARCE
CLOSER TO YOU
Big Machine Records

Pearce’s new single sees the country superstar infusing old-school 90s country sounds with modern day pop crossover sounds. It’s a real standout that showcases her stunning vocal tone and shines a light on her ability to write insanely catchy songs. LK

FIGHTMILK
DREAM PHONE
Reckless Yes

Fans of the 90s board game Dream Phone will rejoice that the London band have devoted a whole song to it. That the track is a shimmering fragment of punk-pop seems only fitting, encapsulating the magical feeling of getting through to your secret admirer (or so we’re led to believe). DH

Words: Laura Klonowski, Duncan Haskell, Dave Chrzanowski
