This year’s Ivors were awarded last night in London, honouring the very best of the UK’s songwriting and composing community

British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors (BASCA), in association with PRS for Music, yesterday announced the winners of the 62nd Ivor Novello Awards at a ceremony hosted by Paul Gambaccini at London’s Grosvenor House. The Ivors were presented in 14 categories: six nominated awards for works released in the UK in 2016, as well as the recipients of eight ‘Gift of BASCA’ awards recognising outstanding contributions to British music.

The Ivors were created by BASCA to celebrate, honour and reward excellence in songwriting and composing. The awards, which have been sponsored by PRS for Music since 1974, are unique in specifically honouring the UK songwriting and composing community and are exclusively judged by songwriters and composers.

“In celebrating the exceptional power of British and Irish music writing and by honouring the past, the present and the eternal creators of music – once again this year, The Ivors absolutely smashed it,” said BASCA Chairman Crispin Hunt. “Heartfelt congratulations go out to every winning composer. Whether you wrote songs, symphonies or syncs – we salute you.”
