Songwriters vie for a chance to win a top prize of $50,000 worth of cash and merchandise such as gear
With the 21st Annual USA Songwriting Competition deadline approaching on 27 May, songwriters only have a few days to enter and be in with a chance of winning the top prize of $50,000 worth of cash, merchandise and guaranteed radio airplay. Songwriters can enter in 15 different song categories such as: Pop, Rock/Alt, Folk, R&B, Hip-Hop, Jazz, Instrumental, etc.
Last year’s winners, Los Angeles-based folk/pop band Distant Cousins won Overall Grand Prize with their song Are You Ready (On Your Own). Written by Ami Kozak, Dov Rosenblatt & Duvid Swirsky, the track featured on this year’s American Idol as well as the movie This Is Where I Leave You, starring Jason Bateman and Tina Fey.
Previous USA Songwriting Competition winners have originated from Australia, Japan, Canada, UK, Germany, Brazil, South Africa and, of course, the United States. Successful applicants have gone on to earn recording contracts, get their songs placed on film and TV, as well as get cuts with major artists. The 2013 winning rock band American Authors reached the top of the Billboard Charts and went triple platinum, selling over three million copies of the hit single Best Day Of My Life.
