We all have our own truths and the very best songwriters have that ineffable ability to turn those truths into lyrics that grab attention and mean something specific and profound to all who hear them. If that sounds like you, our latest competition is right up your emotionally candid street…

Once again, we’re teaming up with online music learning platform MusicGurus in order to celebrate another of their songwriting courses. This time it’s KT Tunstall, one of the UK’s finest songwriters, who is sharing their secrets in order to help you improve your own writing.

Not just that, KT has got a lyric competition for you and will be choosing the winner herself before sharing their winning words across her social media pages.

I’ve found it has been a time to face some deep truths, personal and global, and it’s led me to a stronger place. I feel that sharing ourselves with honesty helps others do the same. HOW TO ENTER

• Write a verse and chorus of lyrics under the theme of ‘truth’
• Email the lyrics to social@musicgurus.com with the subject line ‘KT Tunstall Lyric Challenge’
• For an extra entry, post your lyrics on Instagram tagging @musicgurushq and @songwritingmagazine – you must be following both accounts
• Closing time and date for the competition is 23:59 BST on Sunday 28 November 2021

• A winner will be picked by KT Tunstall in association with MusicGurus and Songwriting Magazine
• The composition must be original and written by the entrant
• There is only one entry permitted per entrant
