Assisted by Royalty Exchange, we recognise the most successful songwriters behind the biggest hits on both sides of the Atlantic

Surprising absolutely no-one, Ed Sheeran took over the top spot on this week’s Songwriting Chart following the monster debut of his latest album Divide. With every track from the new album charting on the Billboard Hot 100 and UK Top 40 Singles Chart – with songwriting credits on each of them – his dominance this week was fully expected. But also notable is the lift this hit album has had on the other songwriters involved.

The second, fifth and twelfth spots on the chart are also held by Divide‘s songwriters, meaning four of the Top 20 songwriters of the week are all Ed Sheeran collaborators. They include Benjamin Levin (2), Johnny McDaid (5), and Steve Mac (12). Also making his debut this week is Bleachers’ Jack Antonoff, driven mainly by his credits on the new Lorde single Green Light.
