English songwriter sits atop the UK albums charts, after The Hope Six Demolition Project relegated Adele’s 25 to No 2
You may be shocked to hear that PJ Harvey’s ninth studio album has made it to No 1 in the Uk. What’s most surprising, though, is not that Adele’s incredibly successful third album is no longer the highest selling album in the UK, but that it’s Harvey’s first No 1 album.
With The Hope Six Demolition Project at No 1 and 25 at No 2, the rest of the top 5 is made up of Aled Jones’ One Voice at No 3, Santana’s Santana IV at No 4 and Justin Bieber’s Purpose at No 5.
Harvey released her first studio album, Dry, in 1992. A year later she released Rid Of Me, which made it to No 3 in the UK album charts and was Harvey’s highest charting album until The Hope Six Demolition Project. Harvey is the only artist to have twice won the Mercury Music Prize.
