Steve Young: trilby-hatted troubadour

Our third exclusive this week is the new video from guitar-toting British singer-songwriter Steve Young, ahead of his debut album

For this week’s final exclusive, Songwriting is delighted to bring you the world premiere of the video for Steve Young’s new single Back To Mine. The single’s out now, and trails Young’s debut album Troubadour, which is out in May.

Although this is his debut album, Young is no stranger to the music industry: for the past five years he’s been the guitarist for former Savage Garden man Darren Hayes, and has co-written many of Hayes’s songs. But he branched out as a solo artist with a debut EP two years ago, and now, having built a fanbase through extensive touring, he’s ready to push things to the next level.

Of Back To Mine he tells us: “Back To Mine is one of my favourite songs from the album. I showcase all my new songs at my local open mic, and this has been a favourite there for a long time. I’m super excited about revealing my first official music video. I love the tunnel under Waterloo Station, it’s so full of colour and amazing art. I really wanted to use it in the Back To Mine video and I love the way the main characters end up walking past me at the end. Two very different timelines briefly coming into contact.”

We think Back To Mine will appeal to fans of artists such as Ed Sheeran, Jack Garratt or James Bay, but as ever you don’t have to take our word for it – you can make your own minds up!

Like that? Then find Steve Young on Facebook, Soundcloud and Twitter, or at his own website. You can also catch him in action at the launch party for Troubadour, which is at London’s Karamel Club on 27 May
