Summer Days takes place at Clitheroe Castle on 6, 8 and 9 July

Simply Red announced as first headliners for the new festival, which takes place at Clitheroe Castle in Lancashire in July

Just when you thought the UK music festival calendar couldn’t get any more packed… along comes another one! Summer Days is a three-day non-camping event that will take place in the grounds of Lancashire’s historic Clitheroe Castle on 6, 8 and 9 July, and it’s just been announced today that Manchester soul-pop veterans Simply Red will headline the opening night.

This won’t be the first time Clitheroe Castle has hosted a music festival… back in the early 70s its Norman keep reverberated to the sounds of UFO, MC5, Barclay James Harvest, Brinsley Schwarz and Roy Harper when they played the Clitheroe Castle Pop Festival. But while we can’t be 100% certain, it’s unlikely that rather quaintly named event could boast a “locally sourced gourmet food village” or a dedicated real ale area. A dedicated Watneys Red Barrel area, maybe…

The rest of the line-up is still TBA, so we’ll bring you more details as and when we get them. But what we can tell you for now, is that there’ll be some 30+ acts appearing on two stages, and that tickets for each day cost £55 (standard)/£75 (VIP), and that they’re available for presale from Wednesday (21 October).
