In news to delight metal fans throughout the UK, Black Sabbath will join Iron Maiden in headlining Download Festival 2016

It may be still eight months away, but metal fans – get excited now. Because the legendary Black Sabbath will be joining the similarly feted Iron Maiden by headlining the 2016 incarnation of Download Festival, as part of their final ever live shows.

The band were confirmed as the second headline act and join the aforementioned Maiden in taking up two of the three headline slots, with Black Sabbath down to play Saturday (11 June) and Iron Maiden filling the role of the festival’s closing celebrity act on the Sunday (12 June.)

Sabbath frontman Ozzy Osbourne was gushing in his praise of Download, stating: “Download is my absolute favourite summer festival. It’s always like coming home. See you all there!” A press release went on to promise that it will be “their [Black Sabbath’s] biggest and most mesmerising production to date.”

Black Sabbath kick-off their farewell tour ‘The End’ on 20 January 2016, which will be the culmination of a career that begin in 1968 and saw the band being crowned the ‘godfathers of heavy metal’ and selling over 70 million records worldwide. ‘The End’ begins in America, with band then playing a series of spring show in Australia and New Zealand and making the trip to Europe in June. If that’s getting you all teary then don’t feel paranoid, their music will live on.
