Dolly Parton: “It feels great to be #1”
Country legend Dolly Parton’s 43rd solo studio album hits top spot on US, U.K. Canadian and Australian country charts
That’s right, her 43rd solo studio album! Having made it to No 11 in the US country charts with her debut LP Hello, I’m Dolly nearly 50 years ago, Dolly Parton proved she’s still a chart botherer extraordinaire, after her new album Pure & Simple went to No 1 in the US, UK, Canadian and Australian country charts.
In addition to the aforementioned success, Pure & Simple has also made it to No 2 in the UK Albums and No 11 in the US Billboard 200. The album is the follow-up to Parton’s 2014 LP Blue Smoke.
Parton had this to say: “Boy, it’s a good day for me. I am a happy girl! It feels great to be No 1 as it’s been a long time and it feels so good to still be in the game after all this time.”
Doug Morris, CEO of Sony Music Entertainment, offered these words: “Congratulations, Dolly, for your stunning debut with Pure & Simple. You put your heart and soul in this album, and we join you in celebrating a long-overdue No 1 on the country album chart.”
It’s been a great week for Dolly Parton. Not only has the 43rd album of her illustrious career gone No 1 worldwide, she’s also the cover star of the autumn edition of Songwriting Magazine’s app. Our app is available to download via Pocketmags, Android, iOS and Kindle for the bargain price of £1.99, or $2.60.
