Acclaimed singer-songwriter and international recording artist, Dean Friedman has written a book for aspiring songwriters, entitled The Songwriter’s Handbook, to be launched at the Henley Literary Festival on Tuesday 29 September, coinciding with Friedman’s live festival presentation.

The Songwriter’s Handbook offers insight into the minute-to-minute songwriting process from the perspective of a chart-topping songwriter. Using examples from well-known songs by top songwriters, as well as his own catalog of international hits, Friedman explains the basic structure of songs and explores the craft of songwriting.

Based in New York, Dean Friedman enjoys a loyal international following, tours regularly and conducts songwriting masterclasses at universities and music conservatories around the world, including LIPA (Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts) and London’s Institute of Contemporary Music Performance. He is best known for his chart-topping hits: Ariel, Lucky Stars, Lydia, Woman Of Mine and McDonald’s Girl, and he has also composed soundtracks for television, film and video games. Back in May 2014, Friedman was interviewed for Songwriting Magazine where he reflected on his life and experience as a writer.

Friedman’s presentation at the Henley Literary Festival will combine performances of his classic hits as well as readings from The Songwriter’s Handbook. The festival runs from 28 September to 4 October, with Friedman’s launch event taking place at the Henley Town Hall on Tuesday 29 September from 8:30pm.

“This will be a hybrid gig, of sorts,” explains Dean. “I’ll be performing some of my best known songs and then talk a bit about how they came to be. It’s gonna be a fun evening!”

Published by The Artists League, The Songwriter’s Handbook by Dean Friedman will be launched at this event, with the paperback costing £12.95 and the digital copy available via Amazon Kindle at £9.99.
