Bombay Bicycle Club are taking a break… for now

Indie faves are going “on hiatus”, it was announced today, with members concentrating on solo work or returning to university

Some disappointing news today for fans of Bombay Bicycle Club. After 10 years together, the London four-piece are going on hiatus – conscious uncoupling for bands! – for the foreseeable future.

The NME reports that singer/guitarist/pianist Jack Steadman and bassist Ed Nash are to release solo albums, while drummer Suren De Saram will be concentrating on work as a session musician. Meanwhile BBC’s other guitarist Jamie MacColl is returning to university

However, it’s not all doom and gloom for Bombay Bicycle Club lovers… the band’s official statement stresses that this isn’t necessarily the end of the road for the band, merely a (possibly temporary) detour. “We thought it was time for all of us to try something else,” it reads in part. “We are all still incredibly close and probably get on even better than we did when we started the band.”

The band’s last album – their fourth – was 2014’s So Long, See You Tomorrow, which topped the albums charts on both sides of the Atlantic.
