Manchester Arena to reopen with benefit gig

Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, Courteeners and Blossoms are among the acts welcoming back live entertainment fans to the venue

Manchester Arena will officially reopen on Saturday 9 September with We Are Manchester – a special benefit concert to honour those impacted by May’s atrocities, and welcome back live entertainment fans to the venue. Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, Courteeners, Blossoms, Rick Astley and poet Longfella aka Tony Walsh will perform to Manchester crowds along with a pre show DJ set from Clint Boon, with more acts to follow.

All profits from the concert will raise money for the Manchester Memorial Fund, a charitable trust overseen by the Lord Mayor of Manchester which will go towards establishing a permanent memorial for the 22 May attack.

“Those who perpetrate terrorist attacks want to divide us and stifle our freedoms,” declared Manchester City Council’s Sue Murphy. “No one will ever forget the terrible events of 22 May but Manchester has reacted with love, solidarity and a determination to continue doing the things which make this such a vibrant city.”

Murphy went on to say, “We welcome the re-opening of the Arena, a major venue which attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors, as a powerful symbol of this defiant and resilient spirit. It is entirely fitting that the re-opening event should be a memorial fundraiser.”

All customers will be required to go through additional security and screening upon arrival. Bag storage will not be provided and no backpacks or bags larger than 35cm x 40cm x 19cm will be allowed inside the venue.

Tickets, priced at £25 and £30 (plus booking fee), will go on sale at 9:00am on Thursday 17 August. For more information, go to manchester-arena.com
