s part of Independent Venue Week, Radiohead guitarist and songwriter Ed O’Brien will be hosting the first of a series of monthly informal drop-in sessions for young artists on Thursday 29 January at The Water Rats in London. The events will be run by the Featured Artists Coalition (FAC) – the organisation which campaigns for the protection of UK performers, fronted by a group of iconic British music artists – in association with ethical promoter Success Express and Songwriting Magazine.
“I want to hear what it’s like to be a young artist navigating his or her way through the music industry in 2015,” commented Ed O’Brien, “In this way and through our experience in the business, hopefully, we can find a way to better support our sisters and brothers.”
Paul Pacifico, CEO of the FAC, said: “We are really excited to be launching this first event as part of an ambitious programme for 2015, that will allow us to consult and engage with artists from across the industry as part of our work in lobbying, advocacy and education for artists.”
Lorraine Solomons, of Success Express, added: “We are very proud to be working with the FAC, who give the support and information needed to genuinely move artists on towards commercial success.”
The Artist Drop-In Session is due to start at 6pm, with Ed O’Brien, then at 8.30pm Songwriting Magazine teams up with Success Express Music for a special songwriters showcase, featuring Johnny Lucas, Alexander McKay, The Greasy Slicks, Calista Kazuko, Luke Ferre and Echo Wants Her Voice Back.
Attendance is free, but places are restricted to FAC Artist Members only and will be allocated on a ballot basis. Artists can register their interest by sending an email to info@thefac.org
