Bootsy Collins’ new album will soon be walking its way into your ears

On his first new album in six years the legendary bassist has enlisted a host of famous friends and collaborators

Funk legend Bootsy Collins has announced details of his new album, World Wide Funk. His first record in six years, it features guest appearances and collaborations from Chuck D, Buckethead, Doug E. Fresh, Big Daddy Kane, Bernie Worrell and many more.

Speaking about the follow up to his 2011 album Tha Funk Capital Of The World, Bootsy says: “The whole concept was not only about playing music or being current on this album, but about teaching people how to funk for themselves so they can bring some funk to get some. We bring them hope like dope, so not one Funkateer chokes. Unity in the community is a part of this plan and when the Mothership lands there’s nothing but helping hand.”

Other guests to appear on World Wide Funk include: Nashville slide-guitar hero Justin Johnson who lends a hand on Boomerang; Snoop Dog, who brings the slow groove to Hi-On-Heels; and Victor Wooten, Stanley Clarke and Manou Gallo, a trio of bassists who show up on the appropriately titled Bass-Rigged Legends.

Released via Mascot Records on 27 October, Bootsy concludes: “I’ve never really been concerned about what others thought about me or my music, as long as it made you feel good & sexy, like them old house parties, sharing a coke and a smile while doing a bump and grind.”
