Mumford & Sons’ third long-player will be out in May

Album number three will be called ‘Wilder Mind’, and it’ll be out on 4 May, with live dates to follow

umford And Sons have announced the release date for their third studio album – and by all accounts, it’s one that marks something of a change of musical direction, with the folk elements that have characterised their work to date toned down, and synthesizers, electric guitars and drum machines joining the party for the first time.

Frontman Marcus Mumford is quoted by Rolling Stone as saying, “”We felt that doing the same thing, or the same instrumentation again, just wasn’t for us.” The album was recorded mostly in New York over the course of 2014, with all four members contributing lyrically (whereas on their previous albums, Mumford has written nearly all the lyrics).

The album’s tracklisting is as follows:

Tompkins Square Park
Believe
The Wolf
Wilder Mind
Just Smoke
Monster
Snake Eyes
Broad-Shouldered Beasts
Cold Arms
Ditmas
Only Love
Hot Gates

Believe will be released as a trailer single for the album on 27 April. And after that, the boys are headed out on tour, having announced five more dates in their Gentlemen Of The Road Stopovers series of mini-festivals – including an event in Aviemore, Scotland which will be the band’s only UK show this year.
