Sony Music prepares to release several reissue editions of George Michael’s iconic album and commissions a film about its making
Sony Music has announced the release of Listen Without Prejudice 25, a reissue of George Michael’s iconic album, Listen Without Prejudice Vol. 1. Plus, in celebration of the record’s release, Sony Music, Channel 4 and BBC Worldwide have commissioned Freedom: George Michael, a new film charting the album’s creation as well as the songwriter’s subsequent trials and tribulations.
Listen Without Prejudice Vol 1 was George Michael’s second solo album, which he arranged, produced and almost completely wrote every song. The multi-platinum-selling worldwide chart-topper reached No 1 in the UK, where it outsold his debut Faith and went four-times platinum.
A remastered version of Michael’s 1996 MTV Unplugged performance will also be available as an album for the very first time, as part of the deluxe box set and two-CD edition. Listen Without Prejudice Vol 1 will also be reissued on vinyl and digital.
Directed by BAFTA nominee Philip Smith, Freedom: George Michael tells the story of the making of Listen Without Prejudice Vol 1, the court case which followed and the recording artist’s personal struggle. The film is narrated by Michael and co-stars include Stevie Wonder, Elton John, Mark Ronson, Mary J Blige, Tony Bennett, Liam Gallagher and the Freedom! ’90 video supermodels.
International distributor BBC Worldwide will also be making the film available to clients and broadcasters around the world, but its broadcast date is yet to be confirmed. For more news on George Michael, Listen Without Prejudice 25 and Freedom: George Michael, go to georgemichael.com
