Beach House say ‘Depression Cherry’ is “a colour, a place, a feeling, an energy…”
Dream-pop duo Beach House announce the details of their upcoming fifth album, which is due to be released this August
each House have confirmed the title, tracklisting and release date of their upcoming fifth album. Entitled Depression Cherry, the record is the follow-up to their 2012 LP Bloom and will be released on 28 August.
The Baltimore dream-pop duo have stated that the record will see them taking a more stripped-back approach, in contrast to their more recent albums, with a press releases saying Depression Cherry will be, “a return to simplicity, with songs structured around a melody and a few instruments, with live drums playing a far lesser role.” It goes on to say that the growth of the band meant that their more recent work had seen them move away from the style they felt most comfortable with, stating, “larger stages and bigger rooms naturally drove us towards a louder, more aggressive place; a place farther from our natural tendencies.”
Beach House also explained the meaning behind the record’s title, advising that they had chosen it because of its transcendental connotations, “For us, Depression Cherry is a colour, a place, a feeling, an energy… that describes the place you arrive as you move through the endlessly varied trips of existence.”
