Adele says ‘Hello’ to five more Grammys

The 59th iteration of ‘Music’s Biggest Night’ is the Londoner’s crowning moment again providing another five awards for the collection

Last night saw the 59th Annual Grammy Awards take place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, hosted by English comedian James Cordon for the first time. This year’s event was dominated by British singer and songwriter Adele, who left with an armful of five trophies including the ‘big three’: Record and Song Of The Year for Hello and Album Of The Year for her third studio LP 25. These were joined by the gongs for Best Pop Solo Performance and Best Pop Vocal Album.

Adele’s wins followed her performance on the night, which included an emotional tribute to George Michael. The stellar line-up also included a purple-suited Bruno Mars paying tribute to Prince, a politically charged set by hip-hop legends A Tribe Called Quest, a pregnant and entralling Beyoncé, and a powerful combination of Metallica and Lady Gaga joining forces on stage.

Other notable award winners included Chance the Rapper who was crowned Best New Artist, Twenty One Pilots’ Stressed Out was chosen as Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, Cage The Elephant won Best Rock Album for Tell Me I’m Pretty, Beyoncé picked up Best Urban Contemporary Album for Lemonade and Best Music Video for Formation, and Lori McKenna collected Best Country Song for Humble And Kind which she wrote for Tim McGraw. David Bowie received five posthumous awards including Best Alternative Album for his final LP, Blackstar.
