If you’re committed to rocking out like it’s 1973 then this song will have you partying long into the night
If their new song is anything to go by, fans of muscular riffs, a sweeping rhythm section and gravel-throated vocals will find a new love in Hunter & The Bear. This is classic guitar music that harks back to the rock dominated world of the 70s and could comfortably soundtrack any high speed car chase along a dusty road at dawn.
Will Irvine’s voice is perfectly suited to the genre, singing “I am an icicle, hanging in the breeze” with enough cool conviction to carry off the line. When the rest of the band join in on backing oo’s it veers a little too close to Use Somebody-era Kings Of Leon but this doesn’t diminish the song’s triumphant nature.
This is an anthemic call to arms for the band’s fellow night wanderers and a song that must surely go down a storm when played live. You can forgive the Hunter & The Bear’s lack of true originality because Renegade makes up for with its boundless energy and commitment to rock.
Verdict: Bold rock as it was served in the 70s
