Dense layers of instrumentation create an inviting backdrop on this hazy psych dream of a song. Such is the welcome that you’re unlikely to want to leave, especially when the vocals cushion you like a pillow of clouds. We think we’ll be sticking around for a while. DH

This Texan Country singer has a huge 2019 ahead of her and has kicked off the year in style with the release of this stunning ballad. The lyrics are personal and relatable and play ode to overthinking at night as you struggle to switch your brain off. These feelings will strike a chord with many listeners and Lane is an artist who will draw you in with her raw vocal tone. LK

Born in Nairobi, Kenya, Ondara moved to Minnesota when he was 20 because of a love of Bob Dylan and desire to make it as a singer-songwriter. That intoxicating mix of influences can be heard here. Straddling the border between blues and Americana, it lays bare his journey, hopes and dreams. DH

The opening few bars of this single immediately set a scene which invites you to explore some dark corners of August’s mind. Very minimal in instrumentation and emotionally quite cold, the mix is balanced with a Fourtet kind of warmth. While it didn’t grab me at first, the subtle depth of production grew on me with subsequent listens. Definitely a grower! DM

This sultry slow-jam is the follow-up to Laville’s debut single Easy and is further confirmation that his label has another genuine talent on their books. It’s classic soulful R&B, elevated by a warm vocal performance and positive message of self-acceptance – fitting that it comes from the home of Jamiroquai and The Brand New Heavies. DH
