Carrie Underwood: focuses on love and supporting one another in a world that often pits us against each other

This new playlist showcases the considerable talents of Carrie Underwood, Paul McCartney, The Shires, David Crosby, Lennon Stella and Raptor

CARRIE UNDERWOOD
LOVE WINS
Capitol Nashville

This latest release from Carrie Underwood sees the country superstar moving more into pop territory, but lyrically this is an anthem for our generation. Underwood focuses on love and supporting one another in a world that often pits us against each other. This will be a real inspired track if it ever gets an acoustic release.

PAUL MCCARTNEY
I DON’T KNOW
Capitol

With crows at his windows and dogs at his door, this is a Macca ballad but not quite as we know it. Doubts have crept into the psyche of our chipper hero and inspired some genuine insight, as well as a highlight of new album Egypt Station.

THE SHIRES
AHEAD OF THE STORM (ALEX JOSEPH REMIX)
Decca

UK Country-pop duo The Shires’ latest single is an exciting remix of Ahead Of The Storm. The new version has been mixed by Alex Joseph and it freshens up the stunning ballad. The track is a huge fan favourite and lyrically it’s breathtaking. It’s a real standout from the duo.

DAVID CROSBY
GLORY
BMG

Crosby’s recent prolific streak shows no sign of abating and that’s good news for those of us who are enjoying his Indian summer. Awash with glorious harmonies, this collaboration with Becca Stevens, Michael League and Michelle Willis is as mesmerising as it is meditative.

LENNON STELLA
BAD
Records/Columbia

The 19-year-old Canadian singer has once again showcased her breathtaking vocals and mature writing style. A heady mix of pop production combined with country style lyrics focus on a lying partner who has been seeing someone for else for years while treating her like a princess. Another masterpiece from the teenage sensation.

RAPTOR
DYNAMITE (IS FREEDOM)
Donut Records/Don’t Tell Anyone Records

This one features on the latest Donut compilation and presents the Bristol band in all their dynamic glory. Like early Sabbath with additional glam makeup, it’s the kind of energetic barnstormer that kicks us out of bed in the morning – exactly what we need!
