Today’s exclusive track comes courtesy of a supremely gifted Scottish songwriter, who trades in a soulful, yet melancholic, indie-blues style
Today we’re fortunate to be able to bring you a song by one of Glasgow, Scotland’s up-and-coming indie-blues talents. Made exclusively available to you a day before it’s official 5 May release, What’s The Use is a new song by the supremely gifted Jamie Martin.
Of the track, Martin says: “I originally wrote this song about being divided from someone at the end of a failing relationship, but it since took on a more generalised meaning – that basing your views and definitions of right and wrong without a contrasting viewpoint splits us all into our own little self-curated social circles. Sonically, I wanted the song to follow the bleak sentiment of the lyrics with distortion on just about everything”.
He’s been likened to Bon Iver and John Mayer, along with City & Colour. While we agree with those comparisons, we also think that fans of Iron & Wine and Fleet Foxes will enjoy What’s The Use. As always, though, we’ll leave the final judgement on those comparisons up to your trained ears…
