We’ve got another full album for this week’s Monday night premiere, with the debut offering from New Jersey’s Chelsea Carlson

This week’s Monday exclusive is another whole album, as Songwriting premieres The Broken Road. It’s the debut full-length from Chelsea Carlson, a New Jersey-based artist whose particular brand of folk- and country-tinged rock has already seen her win a Jersey Acoustic Music (JAM) award for Top New Female Act.

Chelsea cites the likes of Roger Waters, Robert Plant (as you’ll hear, the album includes a cover of Ramble On) and Janis Joplin as among her main influences. She left New Jersey to study at Berklee College of Music, but has now returned to the Garden State where she’s a regular on the local live circuit. She released her debut EP in 2014.

She says of the album: “The Broken Road is a culmination of my musical career so far. The title refers to the crazy road my musical journey has taken me on over the past few years – the bumps, bends, ups, and downs – but every minute has been worth it and made me the musician I am today. This album is a reflection of my journey to discover who I am as an artist, and a celebration of the amazing experiences I have had as a musician.”

The hype sheet recommends this one to fans of Janis Joplin, Anne Wilson or Grace Potter; we might add Shania Twain and Bonnie Raitt to that list but, as ever, see what you think!
