Songwriting Magazine Winter 2018

Our latest edition features David Crosby, Rosanne Cash, Kristian Bush, Ethan Johns, Ward Thomas, Janis Ian, David Gray and more

Songwriting is proud to announce the publication of the Winter 2018 edition with legendary Californian singer-songwriter David Crosby on the cover. Once a founding member of both the Byrds and Crosby, Stills & Nash, the iconic musician reveals all about his new group and latest album. The digital magazine, aimed at songwriters and fans of song-led music, provides a further selection of interview features with big-name artists and rising stars, songwriting tips and techniques, along with the latest news and reviews of new music and gear.

As well as getting to know Mr Crosby, we chat with a lyricist and musician who only improves with age, Rosanne Cash, meet one half of country music duo Sugarland, Kristian Bush, catch up with acclaimed producer, Ethan Johns, and speak to UK country-pop pair Ward Thomas. Then we get Rob Ellis to tell us about working with his songwriting hero, Marianne Faithfull.

Other features include How I Wrote Are You Gonna Be My Girl by Jet’s Nic Cester and How I Wrote At Seventeen by Janis Ian, plus David Gray shows us his #SongwritingSurvivalKit, Marsicans share their Diary Of A Songwriter, and we revisit the players, albums and instruments that defined Britpop. We also introduce new acts Katherine Priddy and Paria, and some of our past interviewees reveal The Album That Changed Everything.

In our Technique section, Mark Cawley explains how to become an artist songwriter, Patrick Hamilton talks about writing and arranging strings, Grammy-winner Mike Farris shares his top tips, and Peter Raeburn explains how he approaches writing to a brief for film and television.
