This week’s Thursday track exclusive is a slice of wistful, sunny LA dream-pop from Thick As Thieves singer Sunday Lane
his week’s Thursday exclusive comes from an artist who wears two hats. Sunday Lane is the vocalist in LA trio Thick As Thieves, who’ve toured with the likes of Imagine Dragons, Empire Of The Sun, Bassnectar and Nas. But she’s also a solo artist in her own right, and today’s offering is a track taken from her forthcoming EP Future Tense(s), which is out next month. The EP will follow on from 2010’s Bring Me Sunshine EP and her 2012 solo album From Where You Are, tracks from which have featured on numerous US TV shows including One Tree Hill, Bones and Finding Carter.
Of the song itself, Sunday says: “Parliament is essentially a farewell to an on-again/off-again ex. I’m not currently a smoker, but I tend to take on the habits of those I’m dating. My ex and I would sit on the porch and smoke cigarette after cigarette. It was a safe place for us. The relationship was so flawed, but out on the porch we could retreat and be light and easy. The illusion burned down pretty quickly, and we ended going our separate ways. The obvious lesson being: don’t smoke, kids!”
The hype sheet suggests Parliament will appeal to fans of Tegan & Sara and Beach House, but as ever, you can make your own mind up…
