EXCLUSIVE! ‘Falling Over’ by Famous October

Our first exclusive of the week is a gentle and delicate folk number courtesy of a superb Switzerland-based indie-folk duo

Switzerland’s Famous October are an indie-folk duo who show the power of songwriting to pour scorn on geography. Comprised of American Sarah Bowman and Swiss Rene Coal Burrell, the pair came together after meeting at a Swiss music venue in 2006.

Prior to forming Famous October, Burrell had achieved recognition in his Swiss homeland by being nominated for a Swiss PRIX WALO award, while Bowman had graduated with Honors from Duquesne University and Notre Dame of Maryland University.

The duo have released a number of acclaimed records as solo artists and their debut album as Famous October, One Day Baby, is due out on 7 October. Falling Over provides a teaser of what the band have to offer and speaking of the song Bowman says:

“This song is for sisters, for aunts with no children of their own. I want my sister to be happy because I love her. No distance on the earth would make it impossible to reach her when she needs me, no matter how disconnected she feels now that our lives are so different. Women who choose not to have children should feel as accepted as those who follow the path to family. There doesn’t need to be a divide between us. There is always a place for my dear sister, a place very close to my heart.”

The duo take their influence from Joni Mitchell, Joan Baez, Neil Young, Jeff Tweedy and Gillian Welch among others and the classic folk influence is clear in the song. We also think fans of First Aid Kit will enjoy Falling Over. As always, though, we’ll leave the decision on how accurate those comparisons are up to you…
