Kick Out The Jams: the tour poster for MC5’s UK leg

Wayne Kramer brings his special show to the UK this year to celebrate the 50th anniversary of MC5’s classic album

Detroit’s MC5 have announced a European tour to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the seminal album Kick Out The Jams. The tour includes four consecutive UK dates starting in Bristol on 9 November and ending in London on 12 November. The band will be using the moniker MC50 to mark the occasion and will play Kick Out The Jams in its entirety.

The all-star line-up will feature MC5 founder Wayne Kramer, with Kim Thayil (Soundgarden), Brendan Canty (Fugazi), Dug Pinnick (King’s X), Marcus Durant (Zen Guerrilla), Don Was (Was Not Was), and Matt Cameron (Pearl Jam).

Of the UK dates, Kramer said: “I will come to England, where some of the greatest live shows of my life were performed in the MC5, to play Kick Out The Jams again with these great musicians. Doing so is the best possible tribute to the legacy. To borrow from Claude Lanzmann, there will be ‘no retirement and no retreat.’ Let’s rock.”

Kick Out The Jams is still considered as one of the most influential albums of all time, with many artists siting it as a reason for starting a music career. Along with the tour Kramer’s memoir The Hard Stuff: Dope, Crime, the MC5, and My Life of Impossibilities, is to be published by Faber & Faber on 16 August.
