Much celebrated songwriter will star in the pilot episode of the show, which will be broadcast on streaming site Hulu
Fans of Tom Waits are set to get an opportunity to see the much loved songwriter dusting off his acting chops, after he was confirmed to have signed up to feature in the upcoming Hulu crime drama Citizen.
Directed by Alfonso Gomez-Rejon – whose previous work includes Me And Earl And The Dying Girl, Argo and The Town That Dreaded Sundown – Citizen is claimed by Deadline to be set in a “supernaturalized” Los Angeles, with a vigilante hero at the centre of its plot.
Waits has been cast as a priest based in Boyle Heights, who runs an illegal humanitarian operation from his church and has been described as a “walking anachronism of virtue and vice, mostly virtue.” Waits is the only cast member to have been announced so far.
Tom Waits released his debut studio album Closing Time in 1973. He has released 16 studio albums in total with his most recent, Bad as Me, being released in 2011.
