‘Heaven Adores You’, the documentary about the late Elliott Smith, will be released on DVD and Blu-ray in the summer
home release for the Elliott Smith film Heaven Adores You has been announced. The feature-length documentary, directed by Nickolas Rossi and funded by a 2011 Kickstarter campaign, will be available on DVD and Blu-ray from 17 July, via Eagle Rock Entertainment.
Born Steven Paul Smith in August 1969, Elliott Smith committed suicide in 2003 after battling depression and substance addiction. The documentary details the life of the late singer and is the first film to be given rights to his music. It showcases rare footage and interviews, and is soundtracked by Smith’s unheard and unfinished music.
Kevin Moyer, a schoolfriend of Smith’s who worked on the film, explained: “I’m one of the few people who have been able to look into both the Universal and Kill Rock Star vaults. Elliott’s masters are split between two labels. It was fun to be able to get in there and listen to songs and try to get some of that music that had never been heard out there and into the fans’ ears.”
