With December now into double-digits, Christmas really is well on its way and here’s the first of our festive classics

Merry Christmas everyone. How festive are you feeling? We at Songwriting are right in the spirit and if you’re still yet to hang decorations on your tree, don a Christmas jumper, eat your first mince pie, or have your maiden glass of eggnog, then this classic from Slade will get you right in the mood.

Merry Xmas Everybody made it to No 1 in 1973, remaining in the charts until February 1974. It has since sold over a million copies in the UK alone, making it one of the most successful Christmas songs of all time.

So, get your decorations and tree up, grab a mince pie, pour yourself a glass of eggnog, find yourself a truly wonderful Christmas jumper, and stick on Slade’s Christmas classic. After all that you’ll be more festive than Will Ferrell…
