15 of the most hotly tipped artists around will battle it out to be 2016’s Chvrches, HAIM, or Sam Smith

With a back catalogue that features enough stars to brighten a million Christmas trees, taking a place on the BBC ‘Sound Of’ longlist is an honour that can see an artist explode. Who, then, is on the 15 strong list for the BBC’s Sound Of 2016?

Past winners have included the likes of Ellie Goulding, HAIM, Adele and Sam Smith, while with artists of the standing of Chvrches, Florence + The Machine, Hurts and Bloc Party having featured on past shortlists it means that even recognition can lead to great things.

Speaking of the importance of the list, Annie Mac said: “BBC Sound Of is a definitive list of the key artists to look out for and listen to in 2016. It has real results; incredible success stories and I’m looking forward to being able to support these people on my radio shows.”

The longlist of 15 will be trimmed to five in the week of 4 January 2016. For now, though, you can see the 15 artists to feature in the longlist below:
