Today’s exclusive song comes courtesy of a Surrey-born songwriter who’s already making a real name for himself in the industry
The future looks very bright indeed for the writer of today’s mighty fine exclusive track, who already has already supported Rag ‘N’ Bone Man and featured on Spotify’s lauded New Music Friday.
A former music therapy teacher, River Matthews was an early starter in music, having begun learning classical guitar at the age of 7. A fan of Beach Boys, Cat Stevens, The Beatles and The Rolling Stones in his youth, Matthews has a sound that is steeped in the classics of rock, folk and pop.
Today’s exclusive song from Matthews is Feels Like Morning. Of the track, he says: “Feels Like Morning started off as a real mellow tune. After listening to Corinne Bailey Rae, I started writing about how her voice felt to me… “so sweet, and it feels like morning…” Then the song grew and started to get a pace and new life of its own… After it was finished I realised it was about new beginnings.”
He’s been likened to Jeff Buckley, Ben Howard, Hozier, Foy Vance and Ray LaMontagne. We couldn’t agree more and think that fans of Iron & Wine and The Tallest Man On Earth, will also adore Feels Like Morning.
