Finalists for the Artist Accelerator competition are revealed after a record number of submissions including entries from 24 new countries
Now in its fifth year, the Midem Artist Accelerator (MAA) competition has seen submissions rise 35% on last year’s event. Finalists will perform on a beach stage at Cannes during the Midem By Night series which takes place between 4-7 June.
Selected artists will perform in front of a panel of experts, and receive mentoring on legal issues and data analytics, plus networking opportunities during the event. Finalists will also feature in Midem communications and have their music included on the official Midem 2019 vinyl compilation.
The MAA event opens doors to unsigned artists and songwriters, resulting in previous finalists winning record and management deals with the biggest labels in the world. In 2017, UK entrant Be Charlotte signed to Columbia Deutschland/Sony Music after a successful performance in Cannes. While French DJ Kiddy Smile was invited by President Macron to perform at the annual Fête de la Musique held at the Elysée in Paris.
“We’re so pleased to have seen such a boom in entries for 2019, particularly the diversity of genres and nations represented,” said Alexandre Deniot, Midem Director. “With our commitment to working in developing regions through the High Potential Markets Programme, including the African and Latin American Forums, we’re especially excited to welcome submissions from countries in those areas, such as Kenya, South Africa, Puerto Rico and Colombia. I wish all the finalists the best of luck and look forward to seeing them perform in Cannes this June.”
