Carrie Underwood breaks record at CMT Music Awards

There was plenty to celebrate at this year’s Country Music Television Awards with record-breaking artists and audiences drawing high praise


The CMT Music Awards took place this week and it was a landmark occasion for the annual ceremony. This year saw Carrie Underwood break the record for most awards won, winning her 19th and 20th accolade at the event in Nashville, Tennessee. The fan-voted awards are a celebration of country music videos and television performances, with past winners including Taylor Swift.

Underwood won Female Video Of The Year for her song Love Wins and Video Of The Year for Cry Pretty. The televised ceremony saw a spike in viewers due to it airing on multiple channels. The show peaked at 2.7 million viewers, an increase of 29% over last year.

Little Big Town hosted the evening for the second year running, while there were performances by the star of the night Carrie Underwood, Thomas Rhett, Luke Bryan and Dan + Shay. There was also an array of stars handing out the awards, including Kiefer Sutherland and Modern Family’s Sarah Hyland.
