Songwriters can now submit their entries for the 24th Annual USA Songwriting Competition for a chance to further their careers
Outside of the one percent, songwriters have a hard time making money. Thankfully the USA Songwriting Competition desperately wants to unload $50,000 of cash, merchandise and equipment. All they require is one original song to be submitted by 31 March 2019. There are 15 different categories including: Pop, Rock/Alt, Folk, R&B, Hip-Hop, Jazz, and Instrumental.
As good as those prizes sound it’s how the competition can elevate careers why songwriters should take note. Previous winners include American Authors who followed up their win with a No 1 song on the Billboard Charts. Other winners have signed recording deals with the most renowned labels, appeared on national television shows and worked with the best artists in the business like Faith Hill.
Last year, David Wilcox scooped the Overall Grand Prize and Best Folk Song. He is proof that it’s never too late for a career boost. With 20 albums in the bank and a devoted fan base, his songs have been covered by the likes of KD Lang, but he felt it was still worth entering the competition.
“I’m grateful my song was selected winner of the top prize in the USA Songwriting Competition,” said Wilcox. “This recognition inspires me to continue the work. I love the process of writing, and this will help me follow through when the next song idea pops into my head. Thanks to the judges, and thank you to everyone at the competition for supporting the art of songwriting.”
