Black Stone Cherry: get stuck in with serious gusto
Here’s our choice selection of tracks from Black Stone Cherry, The Catenary Wires, Carly Pearce, Alessandro Ciminata and Vic Allen
BLACK STONE CHERRY
DEATH LETTER BLUES
Mascot Records
The Kentucky rockers take on Son House’s haunting classic as part of their Black To Blues Volume 2 and get stuck in with serious gusto. At close to six-minutes, Chris Robertson and his band have plenty of time to contemplate the news and work through their feelings. DH
THE CATENARY WIRES
TIE ME TO THE RAILS
Tapete Records
With an uneasy mood reminiscent of The Handsome Family, Amelia Fletcher and Rob Pursey set about ending an argument once and for all down by the rail tracks. Melodica and authentic train rumbles add the atmosphere to this fraught duet. DH
CARLY PEARCE & LEE BRICE
I HOPE YOU’RE HAPPY NOW
Big Machine
Kentucky-born singer Carly Pearce returns with the latest taste of her forthcoming sophomore LP which is due to drop early next year. Despite the longing and sadness weaved throughout its lyrics, this track has an anthemic edge that makes you want to sing along, and the addition of Brice brings the whole sentiment of the record together perfectly. ALESSANDRO CIMINATA
SIGNS
Yada Yada Records
Hazy synths, trickling beats and the subtle groan of a guitar surround Alessandro Ciminata as he contemplates love and loss. Written after the death of his grandfather last year, the London-based songwriter captures an appropriately reflective mood. DH
VIC ALLEN
ENOUGH
Self-release
The British country scene is at an exciting juncture and rising talent Vic Allen is another great example coming through the ranks. Her latest offering is all about worrying that you will never feel happy or feel what you currently have is enough. In a world of instant gratification, this theme should strike a chord with many. LK
