This week’s third exclusive comes from a Seattle artist who serves up alt-folk that’s traditional and contemporary all at once

Once again, Songwriting is delighted to bring you a third exclusive track this week, with today’s offering coming from Seattle-based alt-folk artist Nick Drummond. Although it has to be said, his new single Rivulet is traditional-sounding enough that the ‘alt’ tag possibly isn’t strictly necessary!

A songwriter and performer with over 10 years’ experience under his belt, Nick was formerly frontman of the bands The Senate and Impossible Bird, but has recently struck out on his own, and his debut solo album Follow The Rivulets, from which tonight’s exclusive track is taken, is out on Sunday (10 April). Produced by Nathan Yaccino, the album features contributions from Oliver Franklin (guitar), Ehssan Karimi (drums/hang) and Eric Robert (keys). For live shows, they’re joined by Mark Mattrey on bass.

Of Rivulet itself, Nick says: “This song is the thesis of the album. I wrote it on my six-string banjo when it was new, and my good friend and drummer Ehssan Karimi laid down some gorgeous hang drum to go with it. At its essence, the song is about finding grace and acceptance within a transition, even when it’s a change one doesn’t want.”
