Prince: coming soon to a town near(-ish) you

His Purple Highness will play stripped-down shows in Glasgow, London and Birmingham later this month as part of European tour

Yes, it’s the news Prince lovers have been waiting for… the dates for his ‘Prince Spotlight: Piano & A Microphone Tour’, his first live dates since the release of his latest album HIT N RUN via Tidal back in September. As the name subtly hints, this tour will see Prince eschewing huge musical onstage extravaganzas in favour of a much more minimal approach, playing solo on the piano.

At a press conference, he said: “Why do this now? For several reasons. For starters it is a challenge. I rarely get bad reviews because this is something that’s been perfected for over 30 years. You have to try new things. With the piano it is more naked, more pure. You can see exactly what you get.”

So without further ado, the UK gigs are as follows…

Royal Concert Hall, Glasgow (27 November)
Theatre Royal, London (29 November)
Symphony Hall, Birmingham (1 December)

Prince will actually play six gigs, because each city will see both a matinee and an evening performance on the same day. The only other tour date to be announced so far is at Konzerthaus, Vienna on 24 November, but it’s understood Prince will be visiting the Netherlands, Switzerland, Italy, Germany, Austria, France, Denmark, Belgium and Spain.
