New Morrissey album is written and awaiting distributor

The former frontman of The Smiths has written the follow-up his 2014 album ‘World Peace Is None Of Your Business’

It’s the news that Morrissey’s fans have been waiting for, well almost. The iconic songwriter has confirmed that he has written his tenth solo album, but that he is currently waiting for a distribution deal in order to release the record.

Speaking to Israel’s Walla, Morrissey said of this the album: “It is written. We need to find a distribution deal. It is not possible to find a recording deal, so we would record it ourselves as soon as we can find a distributor who could make it available worldwide.”

Continuing by talking about the changing horizons in the music industry, Morrissey said: “There was a time when the music industry served the artist, but now the artist must serve the music industry, which is why everything is now so tasteless.”

He went on to discuss his solo career in comparison to his time in The Smiths, saying: “I prefer now to then. David Bowie once told me that his success in the 1970s confused him because he did not enjoy it. I feel the same way about the 1980s.”

Morrissey released his first album with The Smiths in 1984, the band’s self-titled debut. The Smiths went on to release three more studio albums, with their final album, Strangeways, Here We Come, coming in 1987. Morrissey released his debut solo album, Viva Hate, in 1987 and has since released a further nine solo albums, with 2014s’ World Peace Is None Of Your Business being his most recent.
