PRS Members’ Fund Summer Family Support – lightening the load for parents in music
From family help to restorative breaks, the PRS Members’ Fund urges songwriters to claim vital summer support and keep creating
For more than 90 years, the PRS Members’ Fund has been a steadfast source of support for songwriters, composers, and their families. Founded in 1934, the Fund helps members weather financial hardship and life’s unexpected challenges. In 2024 alone, the Fund provided 679 grants worth over £741,000 and, in the last decade, has awarded £6.8 million to PRS members and their dependants. Its work spans financial aid, housing support, mental and physical health assistance, and career guidance – a safety net for a profession where income can be unpredictable and wellbeing often overlooked.
This summer, the Fund wants to highlight two initiatives – Summer Family Support and Reset & Rewind Wellbeing Breaks – that recognise this time of year can be particularly challenging for songwriters and musicians balancing work, family, and creative demands.
Summer Family Support
For working parents in the music industry, the long school summer holidays can create a perfect storm – with gig schedules, writing commitments, and studio work colliding with childcare needs and rising household costs. The PRS Members’ Fund’s Summer Family Support programme offers practical, financial help to ease the pressure.
Members can apply for grants covering:
- Up to £500 towards holiday clubs (for a maximum of two weeks)
- £150 towards family day trips
- School uniform costs (up to £250 for senior school, £50 for primary)
- A general contribution of up to £250 towards increased seasonal expenses
Eligibility is straightforward: applicants must have been a PRS for Music member for seven years or earned at least £500 in royalties, and must provide evidence of child benefit. The support runs until the first week of September, ensuring help is available when families need it most.
The summer brings both joy and strain, and this help can make a big difference in keeping life, and creativity, on track.

PRS Members’ Fund Reset & Rewind – a pause with purpose
Reset & Rewind
Alongside its family-focused work, the Fund has also launched Reset & Rewind, a wellbeing breaks initiative for members recovering from illness, stress, or anxiety, or those simply in need of a reset.
With a ringfenced budget of £25,000, Reset & Rewind offers up to 50 members:
- A UK-based break of up to five days
- A fixed maximum sum of £500 per applicant to cover accommodation and travel
The idea is simple: to give creators space to breathe, recharge, and reconnect with their craft. Whether that means finding solitude to write, spending time in nature, or regrouping with bandmates, the aim is to support both mental wellbeing and creative momentum.
Members who have benefited from the value of Reset & Rewind:
“It restored my confidence and gave me the headspace to write for the first time in years.”
“I made lifelong friends and collaborators – all because I had the chance to step away and refocus.”
“It was literally hope-giving at a time I didn’t think I could carry on.”
Applicants must meet similar eligibility criteria to the Summer Family Support scheme, with priority given to first-time applicants and those who could not otherwise afford such a break.
Continuing commitment
Both initiatives underline the PRS Members’ Fund’s broader mission: to provide “support beyond the music” so that songwriters and composers can sustain both their livelihoods and their creative spirits. The organisation knows that thriving in the music industry takes more than talent and drive – it takes stability, resilience, and sometimes, the willingness to pause.
The message this summer is clear: if you’re a PRS member in need of support, these opportunities are here for you – whether that means keeping your family afloat, reclaiming your creative energy, or simply taking the space you need to breathe.
By stepping forward now, you’re investing not only in your career but in your wellbeing, so that the music can keep playing.
