A historic achievement sets the stage as entries now open for the 30th anniversary of this renowned global music contest
Wales-based songwriter Julian Gardner has made history as the first UK artist to win the Overall Grand Prize at the annual USA Songwriting Competition. Alongside his collaborators J.O.Y. and Paddy Hunt, Julian clinched the title with his track Higher Than Love, which also won Best Dance/Electronica.
“I’m over the moon to be chosen as the 2024 Overall Grand Prize Winner!” said Julian. “It’s an incredible honor to be recognized by the USA Songwriting Competition in this way. This has truly put a spotlight on my musical journey and validated all the hard work.”
This victory marks a triumphant comeback for Julian, who had previously received an honourable mention for his single Problem in 2023. The Welsh songwriter reworked his approach, and the results speak for themselves.
The Overall Second Prize went to Skylar Springer and Kayliann Lowe from New Jersey for their song Stubborn, while the Overall Third Prize was awarded to Liddy Clark from Missouri for My Best Friend’s Getting Married.
This year’s winners are in impressive company. Three past and present USA Songwriting Competition winners have secured Grammy nominations this year: Ron Korb (Best Global Music Performance), Lucy Kalantari (Best Children’s Music Album) and Wouter Kellerman (Best New Age Album).
Could you be next?
With a legacy now spanning three decades, the USA Songwriting Competition has become a launchpad for songwriters worldwide. Past winners like Andrew Jannakos (signed to Sony Music Nashville) and Priscilla Renea (whose songs have been recorded by Ariana Grande, Rihanna, and Madonna) exemplify the opportunities the competition offers. The 30th Annual USA Songwriting Competition is now open for entries. Could your song be the next breakout hit?
